Angadi Theru Anjali - Beauty and Performance!

“Nejamathaan Solriyaa?” – This simple dialogue and her innocent look in ‘Kattradhu Tamizh’ made audience feel that she is their next door girl. She won Filmfare Award and Vijay Award for Best Debut Actress for that film. This time, her dialogue “Maara Pudichchu Kasakkunaan” in ‘Angaadi Theru’ brought tears from the eyes of audience. That one scene is enough to praise Anjali for her realistic performance in the film.

Anjali was born in a village near Rajamundry in Andhra Pradesh. She is only 27! She was the first girl in her family to wear modern dress. So, villagers used to call her ‘heroine’ those days. Actually Anjali’s mother Bharathi wished to enter cinema field but her grandfather refused to it. Bharathi still looks young like Trisha’s mom and people in cine field often misunderstand Bharathi as Anjali’s sister!

Villagers calling Anjali as ‘heroine’ created a strong desire in her mind to become an actress. Though she made her debut in Telugu, her Anandhi character in ‘Kattradhu Tamizh’ brought her under limelight. Then, she went for an image makeover, enacting a glamorous role with less scope to perform, in her 2nd film 'Aayudham Seivom' opposite director-turned-actor Sundar C. Anjali has now been receiving rave reviews and accolades for her critically acclaimed role as Kani in ‘Angaadi Theru’. At present she has 6 Tamil films in her kitty viz. Rettaisuzhi, Thambi Vettothi Sundaram, Maharaja, En Kanavu Neethandi, Magizhchi and Thoonga Nagaram.

Recently she was asked as to why she is acting in Masala films while she has capacity to act in films like Kattradhu Tamizh and Angaadi Theru? Anjali replied that films like Kattradhu Tamizh and Angaadi Theru would take more than one year for filming and it would delay further, due to postproduction works, to hit the screens. She was afraid as people in cine industry and fans may forget her because of these delays and so she accepted some masala films. She says “Angaadi Theru has given me a new icon and respect. I will be choosy in my future projects”. With her new decision Anjali disproved the statement of English poet Alexander Pope “In youth and beauty wisdom is but rare!”
